Since becoming fully operational beginning last June, G. I. Wishes - A Pet for a Vet has been creating alliances with rescue groups, veterans organizations, the National Guard and veterinarians in preparation for fulfilling our mission. Starting with minimal funding we began to place pets with vets, and foster dogs for deployed soldiers. Towards the end of the year we began to apply for grant funds and we are proud to announce our first grant of $7500 from the Banfield Charitable Trust. These funds will be specifically used to support our foster network caring for the companions of deployed military and to assist financially distressed veterans and their families to ensure that caring for their companions doesn't threaten keeping them together. Both of these important programs fit directly with one of Banfield's core missions, to keep companion pets and their families together.
